Remembering Forward.
Alaska Just Transition Collective builds a shared visionary path for Alaska by addressing the growing political, economic, and ecological crises we face. The goals of this community are to inspire and catalyze action, connect and elevate partnerships, amplify the immediate needs of our communities, and create shared language across sectors.

Mission Driven.
Stop the Bad. We recognize that we must immediately stop new oil and gas leases in Alaska. We aim to set a national and global precedent by becoming the first oil-producing state to announce a phase-out of existing production in line with the Paris climate goals. To achieve in stopping the bad, we must support and strengthen existing organizations and policies that work to keep fossil fuels in the ground (mining, oil, and gas).
Build the Good. A regenerative economy is not only possible, it is already seeded in Alaska.
Change the Story. The dominant narrative pits a healthy environment and just communities against jobs and stability. This is not our story here in Alaska, where we rely on one another and often define our personal economies as much by a freezer full of fish as we do money in the bank. We know we must: change the story about both what exists and what is possible in Alaska; invest in story-based strategy and narrative building; uplift and collaborate with partners sharing this vision to use common language of transformation.
Change the Rules. Local, state and federal policies must be reshaped to support a just and equitable transition in Alaska. With policy experts, message testing, polling, and strong C4 partners, we can change the rules to support a regenerative economy in Alaska.

Community Led.
The Alaska Just Transition Collective uses the Benhti Kanaga’ phrase Kohtr’elneyh, meaning “We Remember'' in the language of the lower Tanana Dene peoples of Interior Alaska, to honor the path we chose to take in Alaska for a Just Transition. We recognize that we must move forward informed by Indigenous knowledge to shape our current communities and build greater balance. By acknowledging the original stewards of these lands, Alaska Native peoples, we also uplift a knowledge system that has deep history and relationship to the lands all Alaskans currently call home. The Alaska Just Transition Collective strives to not only create a path forward by actively remembering a knowledge system that has lived in harmony with these lands for thousands of years. For us, a Just Transition means uplifting Indigenous place-based knowledge systems and ways of life while we shape regenerative economies, steward lands and waters, and build more just and equitable communities for all.

Narrative Oriented.
A Just Transition requires us to build a visionary economy for all life through strategies that democratize, decentralize, decolonize, and diversify economic activity while reducing consumption and redistributing resources and power.
Just Transition initiatives shift the economy from dirty energy to community controlled energy: from funding new roads to expanding public transit, from incinerators and landfills to zero waste, from industrial food systems to food sovereignty, from homelessness to self-determined communities, and from rampant destructive development to ecosystem restoration. The core of Just Transition is deep democracy and decolonization, wherein workers and communities have control over the decisions that affect their daily lives and traditional lands.
